Laura Jazmyn Band with Armstrong & O’Donnell

Another superb night at the R&B club in the Muse Brecon. The evening started off with Armstrong and O’Donnell, who conjured up a wonderfully warm, soulful atmosphere, with Chris Armstrong’s soaring vocals complemented perfectly by Mark O’Donnell’s delicate and creative guitar playing. Owen Whittall underpinned the whole thing with his sensitive and accomplished bass work – and between them they created a truly hypnotic performance, tastefully melding elements of soul, jazz, folk and blues. The Laura Jazmyn band were absolute superstars – Laura’s beautiful and expressive singing captivated the audience immediately, and the whole band worked together with great energy, precision and confidence. They did a few cover versions – including a great version of Arlo Parks’ ‘Hope’, although perhaps most impressively the quality and originality of the self-penned songwriting from Laura’s ‘Ride or Die’ EP was more than a match for anybody else’s.
