SUMMARY:MISTY BLUES LIVE AT THE MUSE...
DESCRIPTION:The MWR&BC in association with RockinNights Promo & The Muse Brecon Presents… \nMISTY BLUES \n2019 International Blues Challenge finalist\, Misty Blues\, is led by lead singer/band founder Gina Coleman. The band is based out of Berkshire County\, Massachusetts playing original and traditional blues with hints of jazz\, soul\, funk and tent revival gospel since 1999. The band has recorded with Charles Neville\, Joe Louis Walker\, Eric Gales\, Kat Riggins and Justin Johnson\, and opened for contemporary blues artists Mike Zito\, Albert Castiglia\, Tab Benoit\, James Montgomery\, John Primer\, Roomful Of Blues\, Albert Cummings and Michael Powers. Misty Blues performs extensively throughout New England and has toured the continental U.S.\, UK and Canada. The band has been nominated for several Independent Blues Music Awards and their original recordings have received broad international airplay and topped countless blues\, folk and American roots charts. \n \nIn the summer of 1999 Gina Coleman was performing in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of A Raisin In The Sun. That production featured the acting of Ruben Santiago Hudson\, Viola Davis\, Kimberly Elise and Gloria Foster. Coleman was cast as a gospel singer. Nearing the end of the show’s run\, Ruben Santiago Hudson gave Coleman a cd collection entitled Men Are Like Streetcars. He told her that her voice was well-suited for the blues and urged her to take that musical direction. Coleman heeded his advice\, and after 25 years and 16 albums\, Misty Blues has stood the test of time. \nhttps://www.mistybluesband.com/ \nhttps://www.bluesblastmagazine.com/misty-blues- \nhttps://www.youtube.com/c/MistyBluesBand \nhttp://midwalesrandb.club/ \nhttps://www.themusebrecon.com/

DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Mid Wales R&B Club & The Brecon Folk Club jointly presents an evening of Folks/Roots/Acoustic Country Blues. \nSTEVE FERBRACHE:\nSaved from a route to ruin in his teens by the folk clubs of North Wales and later taken around the world by his award winning Americana/Roots band The Achievers\, Steve Ferbrache has some stories to tell. His new solo project charts a life come good – from serious mental illness to a recovered family man seeking to share and inspire through his music.\nPoetically articulate song-writing and highly-accomplished\, unobtrusive finger-style guitar are just two aspects of his engaging and inspiring concerts. Drawing influences from both traditional British folk music and American roots & old-time styles his songs are driven by message and melody – often disarmingly open\, encouraging close connection between artist and audience. Known internationally for his master stage-craft\, story telling and relaxed\, convivial live performances\, Steve Ferbrache is committed to leaving audiences better than he found them – even after they’ve explored some of the toughest aspects of life together. \nQuotes:”\nAn incredible songwriter\, and one hell of a voice!” – Seasick Steve”\nDefinitely a class above – his easy charm and twinkling humour would win over the most battle weary” – Music Riot”\nA very fine guitar picker\, reminds me of early Paul Simon” – Wizz Jones \nWebsite:\nwww.steveferbrache.com\nFacebook:\nwww.facebook.com/steve.ferbrache.98\nInstagram:\nwww.instagram.com/steveferbrachesolo/ \n& Special Guest Act \nHERMIONE WILD:\nHello! I’m Hermione Wild. There isn’t a blanket term for what I do so I’ll do my best to summarise – I’m a creative/spiritual handy woman – I do a little bit of lots of things. SUMMARY:MWR&BC Presents Our XMAS GATHERING (10th year of the club) with live music from NOOKEE
DESCRIPTION:DEC 8TH XMAS GATHERING (Fast approaching 11 years old in Jan) \nThe return of NOOKEE for the 3rd time each time delivering a different set of mostly original material) \nNOOKEE; A Welsh born soup of soulful story driven experimentation\, fusion of funky world groove\, tribal percussion and ethereal harmony. More a family bond than a band\, NOOKEE’s iconic fronting identical twin sisters weave blood-matched harmonies through genre-defying sounds from their newfound Celtic brothers. Unrestrained by any method\, this group’s curated live show has been likened to that of Frank Zappa\, Pink Floyd and Earth\, Wind & Fire. Bringing to the stage more than just sound\, this 7 piece band takes advantage of all performative elements including outfits\, props\, narrative and theatrics. Nookee’s set sonically ebbs and flows through a spectrum of emotions showcasing powerhouse vocal art\, hypnotic grooves from Samba to Disco and from the blues to the punchy noise of psychedelic rock. \nSGA TBC \nhttps://www.nookeeband.com/ \nhttp://midwalesrandb.club/

The two-time “Blues Artist of the Year”\, and leader of the band Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers\, has earned a reputation as a captivating performer\, playing stages large and small throughout the US\, UK and Europe\, and opening for everyone from ZZTop to Honeyboy Edwards\, Buddy Guy and James Cotton. In Living Blues Magazine\, Frank Matheis called Erin “one of the most dynamic\, talented and exciting roots rocking blues women on the scene”\, noting\, “she has it all – a golden voice and guitar chops that dazzle!” Her latest album – “Meet Me In The Middle” (self-produced by Harpe\, along with her husband\, bassist Jim Countryman) – won the prestigious “Album of the Year” from the New England Music Awards. Erin’s high-energy performances center around her exceptional finger-style and boogie blues guitar playing as well as her striking soulful vocals. The sound she creates with her band harkens back to the time of juke joints – updated with more modern influences like funk\, soul\, rock\, and reggae. Her music has drawn comparisons to Muddy Waters\, Bonnie Raitt\, Canned Heat and Maria Muldour. \nFor more info on Erin go to: \nhttps://www.erinharpe.com/ \nhttps://www.erinharpe.com/presskit \nhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Harpe_%26_the_Delta_Swingers \nSpecial Guest Act \nJoe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy (Trio) \nIt’s easy to consign the idea of the itinerant blues singer to myth (Robert Johnson) or caricature (Seasick Steve) and for quite some time\, Joe Kelly was as close as you could get to the real thing. \nAfter spending years living out of various cars\, vans and caravans\, touring the UK\, Australia and New Zealand with just a broken-necked guitar and a battered case of harmonicas\, Joe Kelly found shelter in an old Victorian police station just in time to ride out the storm that was the covid-19 pandemic. \nIt was in this time that Joe Kelly was able to focus on consolidating the vast wealth of songs written in transit into an album that could encapsulate the spirit of those years on the road. \nBacked by the Royal Pharmacy with Jon Greening on production duties\, debut LP ‘World On Fire’ sees the dustbowl-dry skeletons of Joe Kelly’s haunted blues and country songs fleshed out with a widescreen Americana sound ranging from lush to eerie. \nReworked from ‘The Album That Never Was’\, Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy’s first full offering is an amalgamation of earlier tracks cut live in the studio with minimal overdubs using vintage production methods and newer tracks recorded remotely in lockdown creating a more contemporary sound reminiscent of the likes of The War On Drugs. \nWith the help of Dirty Carrot Records\, the album is now available on all streaming sites with physical copies available at shows\, in local record stores and via the band’s Bandcamp page. \nhttps://www.joekellyofficial.com/ \nFor more details on all of the above & The Mid Wales R&B Club follow the links below— \nAngus Kings 0786 6000 596 \nBlues related. \nwww.midwalesrandb.club \nangus@midwalesrandb.club \nhttps://www.facebook.com/midwalesrhythmandblues \nhttps://www.instagram.com/themidwalesrandb/ \n  \nThe Brecon Tap: \nhttps://www.brecontap.foodndrink.uk/ \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The MWR&BC Presents: THE SOUTHERN FRIED GROOVE QUEENS (UK) Live at THE BRECON TAP
DESCRIPTION:Fresh from the fryer of the UK’s Deep South\, Southern Fried Groove Queens are a Mississippi Hill Country/Delta inspired duo\, featuring Lee Hall on Guitar/Vocals & renowned Blues drummer Lucy Piper\, daughter of the late Blues musician\, Julian Piper ‘one of the UK’s foremost champions of African-American blues’ – The Guardian. \nCooked to perfection using a traditional recipe passed down through generations\, they provide that heavy heart thumping kick and grooves that will make you want to move. \nThe duo play their take on the likes of old blues masters: RL Burnside\, John Lee Hooker\, Robert Johnson and many more. In 2023\, the band played at Ørland Blues Festival in Norway\, where Blues-news described their performance as “a fantastic concert that left many jaws dropping.” Another recent review in June 2024 by Mid Wales RnB Club described the band; “Lucy and Lee play together brilliantly\, with amazing and irrepressible energy\, displaying an uncanny ability to follow one another’s moves. They manage to take some of the absolute all-time blues standards\, and reinterpret them in their own up-tempo style\, whilst never compromising the authenticity of the originals.” \nWith Lee’s unique haunting vocals\, energetic slide playing\, and Lucy’s infectious hypnotic drumming\, they’re not to be missed. SUMMARY:Son Henry (New York\, USA) - plus Paul Keddle & Steve Shipman
DESCRIPTION:“A Son Henry gig is a taste of Texas\, a little bit of Alaska. Solo\, he plays a with an acute feel for the rhythms and anger of the delta\, in turns subtle and ferocious\, hollering and stomping in time with the eerie call of the bottleneck\, on the strings of his beat-up ’32 National. SUMMARY:Jo Carley And The Old Dry Skulls
DESCRIPTION:Blues\, Skiffle\, Calypso and Rockabilly with a creepy vaudeville twist – this is music that makes people wanna shake their bones! \nJo Carley And The Old Dry Skulls are known for their unique live show\, transporting the audience to a bygone era when witches and black magic were rife. Their songs tell stories of deals with the devil\, demons in love\, witchdoctors\, zombies\, ghosts\, ghouls\, journeys to the deepest jungles and other exotic adventures which are told using sweet melodies and syncopated sounds. \nThe music takes influence from early vaudeville blues acts such as Victoria Spivey via Cab Calloway\, Wilmoth Houdini and Wanda Jackson\, but adding a creepy and theatrical twist that echoes Dr John and Screamin Jay Hawkins. \nJo Carley\, Tim Carley\, and James LeHuray\, are the talented artists behind The Old Dry Skulls\, who bring a wealth of experience to their collective craft. Jo Carley is the wild and dark music-hall mistress sent to captivate and enthrall the audience with her Vaudevillian singing and lyrical style. Backed by her song-writing partner and husband the Zombie-like Tim Carley\, who churns out blues-tinged rhythms on an old archtop guitar\, kick drum and rattlin’ shoe\, with fellow fiend James Le Huray providing the final ingredients of the spell\, in the shape of a double bass. \n  \n“With great lyrics and the combination of haunting ragtime blues they create a stupendously enjoyable jaunt into the darker recesses of voodoo\, … It’s superb fun and a real pleasure to just indulge in its lyrics and music…” – Lee Powell / Vive Le Rock 2021 \n“There are dark warnings\, powerful accusations\, gritty observations and singular attitude… this is a musical heist that robs you of ordinary and replaces it with exceptional” – Folkwords (UK) \n…a macabre fairytale\, …Naughty creepy and full of sarcasm\, “So let’s shake those bones together”!” Luminous Dash (Belgium) \nwww.olddryskulls.com \nwww.youtube.com/user/theolddryskulls \nTo book tickets contact Angus Kings (details below) or check back here later for an online ticket link.

SUMMARY:Mid Wales Rhythm & Blues Club - 10th Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:We’ve been going strong for ten years!  Come and celebrate our anniversary\, with: \n\nSnatch it Back\nNothing in Rambling\nLow Down Dirty Dog Blues Band\nTrevor Babajack Steger\nBig Joe Bone & Sicknote Steve\n\n—– \nThe Mid Wales Rhythm and Blues Club was established by Chris and Catherine Rogers as a result of booking original blues bands and artists into pubs in Mid Wales. \nGetting frustrated by audiences not fully appreciating the music\, the club began booking artists into the Ridgebourne Inn\, Llandrindod Wells. The first artist booked was Big Joe Bone in January 2014\, closely followed by Sicknote Steve and Darren Eedens. \nThe club then moved to its second home at Carad in Rhayader. Events were held monthly for approximately 2 years where appreciative audiences enjoyed national and international artists such as Doug Macleod\, Veronica and Max\, Debbie Bond\, Babajack\, Luke Docherty Band and Andy Twyman. \nIn 2016\, the club moved to its permanent home at The Muse in Brecon. It was here that the heart and family of the Mid Wales Rhythm and Blues Club was formed with Angus Kings (publicity)\, Ian Keddle and Jonathan Morris (sound) and Ruth Gibbs (Muse proprietor). The first international artists to play were Swamp Candy\, Matthew Fox and Beki Brindle. \nSince being at The Muse the club showcased artists such as Manitoba Hal (Canada)\, Ariel Polson (USA)\, Kaz Hawkins (Ireland)\, Dom Martin (Ireland\, his first UK performance)\, Greg Koch (USA) and Josh Smith (USA). All headline acts were ably supported by local blues/roots artists. We are very proud that we were able to bring such prestigious performers to Mid Wales. \nChris\, Catherine\, and their team ran the club up until 2020 when the Covid outbreak closed venues all over the UK. It was during this time that Chris and Catherine made the decision to move to Spain. They left the club in the capable hands of Angus Kings at the helm\, Paul Keddle (host)\, Ian Keddle (sound)\, Phil Sheridan (posters/design)\, Barry Hill (inhouse photographer)\, Jim Kerslake (website/reviewer) and Robin Skinner (front of house). \nWhen venues were permitted to reopen the club came back to life with Halfdeaf Clatch\, Beaux Gris Gris\, Dom Martin\, The Achievers and Ian Siegal. The club has continued to go from strength to strength with artists such as Gwyn Ashton\, Otway and Barratt\, Starlight and Campbell\, Trevor ‘Babajack’ Steger and Dave Arcari. \nOn Sunday May 19th\, 2024 at The Muse in Brecon we are all looking forward to coming together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the club. It is our aim\, as always\, to present the best national / international blues and roots artists to our audiences. We are all very proud of the fact that many of the international artists who have played for the club as their only date in Wales as part of a national tour. Angus Kings will be 60 years young on May 22nd a few days later so will be celebrating his 60th birthday on the same evening. \n  \nTickets are £25 and can be reserved from Angus Kings (details below) – very limited availability.

SUMMARY:Dave Arcari
DESCRIPTION:Slide guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari‘s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash country\, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war Delta blues and have been showcased via seven internationally acclaimed solo album releases on labels including Buzz\, Dixie-frog and Blue North.  After a successful Kickstarter campaign his latest album Devil May Care is set for release on red vinyl in  November 2023. \n \nA top three finalist in UK Blues Federation’s UK Blues Awards 2023. Arcari’s music features in numerous BBC TV programmes as well as popular USA series The Deadliest Catch. \nWhile continuing to build his audience in the USA with once or twice-annual tours since 2013 – including official showcases at SxSW in Austin\, Texas – Arcari maintains his presence on the UK and European touring and festival circuits with regular live shows throughout the year. \nThe ultimate validation for Arcari’s music and performance came in 2019 when National Reso-Phonic Guitars launched the ‘Dave Arcari signature model’ guitar. Arcari joins an elite and exclusive group of players who have signature models and is the first – and only – musician outside the USA to be honoured by the iconic instrument maker whose name is synonymous with the development of the blues genre. \nhttps://www.davearcari.com \nhttps://www.reverbnation.com/davearcari/songs \nhttps://davearcari.bandcamp.com/track/younger-days \n  \nA Ticketsource link will be available here soon.\nMeantime\, to reserve tickets\, please contact Angus Kings (details below).

SUMMARY:The Achievers (acoustic set) with Greg Brice
DESCRIPTION:THE ACHIEVERS:\nOver the past decade The Achievers have garnered an international reputation for being one of the very finest\, most accomplished and original live bands performing Blues\, Americana and Roots music in Europe. Their shows\, headlining clubs and festivals around the world\, are life-affirming demonstrations of the power of live music – creating intimate concert atmospheres brimming with laughter\, positivity and rich musicality. Their infectious rhythms\, joyful melodies and jaw-dropping vocal harmonies have gained them much critical acclaim\, multiple UK Blues Award nominations and saw them win the highly prodigious UK Blues Challenge in 2019. They reached the semi-final of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis\, Tennessee in January 2020 and the finals of the European Blues Challenge in Malmo\, Sweden in 2022. To celebrate 10-years of touring and their friendship as a genuine band\, they are undertaking a series of intimate acoustic concerts in England and Wales. The Achievers stand proudly as British Blues & Roots outliers\, never quite fitting into one box or another – but always offering a truly unique\, and highly entertaining night of original roots music. \nGREG BRICE: \nBack when Greg Brice played the pubs\, clubs and bars of the West Midlands he’d often find some of the toughest audiences you could imagine hanging on his every word within a few bars. His intricate fingerstyle guitar and strident electric slide connected in the raw and immediate way that only proper roots music can. And that voice – clear as a bell\, powerful and pure. Now\, in the hush of the UKs Blues and Americana clubs it’s the quality of his song writing that’s capturing people’s imagination. Within just days of launching his debut album crowd funding campaign\, those lucky enough to have already discovered him came out in force. They knew something that the rest of the UK Blues scene will soon realise – that Greg Brice is a proper talent. \nhttps://www.theachieversuk.com/ \nhttps://www.gregbricemusic.co.uk/ \n

SUMMARY:Mike Ross plus Michael Parker & James Davies
DESCRIPTION:January 2023 brought with it ‘The Preacher’ – debut track from Mike Ross’ new 12-track album ‘Third Eye Open’ (out April ’23). Metalplanetmusic described it as “a snakehipped charmer..slinky & self assured…a new anthem that should be played loud!” \nKerrang! called Mike Ross “Burnt in Blues\, Soaked in Soul!” – a description that holds true of Mike’s multiple facets: songwriting\, multi-instrumental talents\, gritty riff-busting\, yet eloquent\, guitarist & also his vocals\, all of which come to the fore on his latest solo releases. \nMike has collaborated with some of the brightest lights in the UK emerging artists scene\, such as Elles Bailey\, Jack J Hutchinson & Troy Redfern. What’s more\, he’s an international touring musician who has played live music on every continent & in most European countries. \n“Third Eye Open is a real bone-shaker of a record\,” says Mike of his new album. “There’s definitely been a feeling of coming ‘full circle’ this this time around\, bringing all of my influences & material bang up to date & the final 12 track behemoth of a record is hands down the biggest\, fattest\, nastiest\, chunkiest thing I’ve ever done!” \nHe’s earned critical acclaim from every point of the music compass: Classic Rock\, Maverick Magazine\, Planet Rock Radio\, BBC Radio\, Music News. As Henry Yates put it in Classic Rock Magazine: “You need to know Mike Ross.” True then: true now. \nFor tickets\, please go to:\nhttps://www.ticketsource.co.uk/mwrbc/t-ojvpaoj \n \n  \n  \n
